CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!

I can't believe that I have seen this day come in America - we have voted in landslide numbers to elect the 44th President of the United States Barack Obama. Emotions of joy, happiness, excitement and expectancy came over me as I watched President Elect Barack Obama take the stage in Chicago before thousands of supporters. As he and his family walked before the world tears overcame me. I didn't realize how emotional this victory was until I could no longer hold back the tears. This is no longer a dream this is change we believed in and made possible for the first African-American family to take residency in the White House. What I found most amazing was a text from Senator Obama thanking me and millions of supporters personally immediately following the results. His gratitude for my support and millions of others was felt immediately. Thank you President Elect Barack Obama for stepping up to the plate and choosing to be the voice of the American people. Thank you for being a warrior, thank you for being the man God created you to be! I pray blessings over you and your family as well as Vice President Elect Joe Biden's family.

This is just the beginning of amazing events to come for America and for President Elect Obama!
YEAH! O-B-A-M-A!!!!

Happy 36th Birthday

It is official - I'm thirtysomething soon to be fortysomething. This year I didn't plan anything big - I just slept in, ran a few errands, requested Whitney to make me a few birthday cupcakes and had dinner with Penny and Gerry. I wanted my birthday (Sept 27th) to be a day I just went with the flow and did whatever. I accomplished my goal. Because Penny called that afternoon early and asked if I had plans and I told her no. She said come over Gerry and I are grilling and we want to help you celebrate your birthday. I thought how sweet and heck yeah I'm there.

I've celebrated many birthdays with Penny, Gerry and Katie Bradley. Penny never forgets and always makes you feel special. She and her family are blessings in my life because what better way to celebrate your special day than with friends who are the family you've chosen. We ate an amazing dinner and drank an even more amazing wine. Food and wine - what a great combination! We sat outside on the deck listening to Latin fusion, sipping our wine and discussing politics. Woooo....the current state of what is going on with the upcoming election, current candidates Obama (Democrat) & that "ole white haired" (Republican) will be one for the history books. Well first Obama is half Nigerian and White with the other candidate being your traditional good ole boy....who would have ever thought that the presidential race would come down to two men totally opposite in a million ways. But I can say that Obama is a gentleman to core because during and after the first presidential debate this past Friday night; he showed the world that no matter the ole white haired man's demeanor towards him he would treat him with respect and dignity.....I'm going to assume Obama was raised to respect your elders...LOL....but enough about that I will definitely have to blog about my thoughts on this.

Back to my birthday...it was simple, enjoyable and exactly what God knew I needed. Turning 36 years old is a blessing that I will not take for granted. Another birthday another blessing - Thank you God!

Oh Maxwell My Dear Maxwell

I can't believe after all this time Maxwell is back! I saw him recently on the 2008 BET Awards singing a tribute to Al Green. I couldn't believe it - my heart fluttered with explosions of joy just to see him singing. My mom looked at me and said "You must really like him!"....my reply was only YES - I've missed him dearly.
I remember a few years back when he came to the Bronco Bowl w/ Jill Scott - that was an amazing show that I will never forget. I'm looking forward to hearing his new album and hopefully seeing him live really really really soon! Welcome back dearest Maxwell you have been missed! Check out his myspace page and listen to his new single!

Sex and the City

After many years of waiting for closure in reference to four of my favorite television characters has finally arrived - SEX AND THE CITY "the movie!" I'm looking forward to seeing Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda and Samantha rekindle the chemistry that for many years had me hooked each and every Sunday night!

When the show aired its last episode a few years back I burst into tears when the credits started rolling. I couldn't control myself. I felt as though I had lost four of my dearest friends to a lifelong sabbatical to a remote location without human contact from the outside world. I immediately went into Sunday night withdrawals because for several years Sunday nights were dedicated to meeting with two of my dearest friends (Mika & Dee Dee) and dishing on what we thought about Big etc. Long gone are those days but as I sit hear they are as fresh in my memory as waking up this morning. I've never before in my life been dedicated to a show as I was to Sex and the City. It spoke to heart of single women across the globe, across color barriers and women of almost every age. The FASHION became a huge part of the show and drew me into a fashion frenzy with Vogue, Fashion Week, Manolo and Jimmy. I've yet bought a pair of Manolo's or Jimmy's yet but one day I'm going to strut myself straight into the shoe department at Neimans with my freshly pedicured toes and place my feet into a pair of leather foot gloves and not even shriek at the price. Place my plastic down on the counter and walk out with my head high and neimans bag swinging in tow. What a wonderful day that will be! Hmmmmm....martinis anyone!

AT&T Moment

I can't believe what I did this evening. I had two year old meltdown on the phone while talking to the AT&T customer service rep. I had a good reason though - I had purchased a usb port a few weeks ago that unknowingly was not compatible with my laptop therefore I returned the gadget with the expectation that everything would be voided etc. A few weeks later I started getting bills from AT&T then delinquent bills started coming in the mail and I immediately called customer service. That was a joke because I had hung up with no help in site and had to return to the store with the intentions of having everything cleared up once the representative went into the computer system and printed out a 2nd & 3rd receipt. Why today, when I came home from a really really really long day at work and found another bill from them waiting and staring up at me from the table. I grabbed my cellphone and called those &%%%##@@@ (pardon me) and the customer service rep had the nerve to tell me I would have to go back to the store and when she said that I lost it and started screaming like a two year old at the lady. She probably thought I was crazy but I was fed up with the run around approach and asked to speak with a manager. She put the manager on the phone after a few minutes on hold and the manager took care of me immediately after viewing my account that showed I had not used any minutes. She apologized repeatedly and stated that they didn't want to loose me as a customer. I responded with disgust in reference to the treatment I had received trying to clear up the account issue. She apologized again and said she would take care of everything. I felt bad screaming at the lady but it did feel good...heeeeee...heeee...try it sometimes just have a complete meltdown on someone you don't know over the phone its a bit liberating...I 'm kidding that was not an excuse but after my long day someone had to feel the heat...sorry AT&T. Do you think they would be interested in sending me a free iphone for my troubles...

Extremely Belated Photos from My Birthday in Sept 07

My Mom (left) had a hard time keeping the surprise but she did a great job of walking out of the room when she needed to chat with Marlo about the plans they were conjuring up. She said she was relieved it was over because she was about to tell me everything if I kept harassing her...lol
Marlo (left) the BEST COUSIN ever she coordinated everything - and is extremely good at keeping secrets....
All smiles from the Concilio Crew - hugs to my ex-coworkers! (Elizabeth, Jorge, Me, Tara and Yoko)

Check out my sister Angie (right) and I - don't we look hot! She did a great job of surprising me for my party - Thanks Sis!
My dearest Michele, Penny & Katie helping me celebrate turning a year wiser...lol....gotta love these girls for coming out on a weeknight!
Myself and Phylisa (my BFF from Stephen F. Austin State Univeristy - Class of 2004) We Rock! Phylisa joined me at my birthday celebration last year (yeah these photos are few months old...oh well)

Life in the Entrepreneur Lane

I'm addicted to watching yet another reality show "Life in the Fab Lane" w/ Kimora. She's crazy, inspiring and successful. I've realized that it only takes getting your foot in the door and from there everything seems to fall into place. Timing, networking, believing in your product/service and surrounding yourself around talented individuals will shift your success into overdrive. Happy Memorial Day!

Getting a Plan!

I have a plan - well not exactly a full blown layout but something of the sort is in the works. I've decided to occupy my time with utilizing my creative talents in various ways. I'm single with no kids so why not! Recently I was asked to become the Special Events Chair for an amazing nonprofit and without hesitation I jumped on board because of the people involved - they have hearts of gold. Why not surround yourself around beautiful people who are genuine and have a passion for what they do. I've also decided to provide my passion for event planning towards helping my cousin and friends jump start their singing careers, I've expanded my volunteer service to help support an additional ministry at church and last but not least my partner in crime business partner/cousin Marlo and I have decided to rekindle our entrepreneurial spirits back into the fast lane of business owners w/ full-time jobs. One wonderful surprise from all of this is that my cousin Kristie has decided to jump on the entrepreneurial train as well. I'm excited for each of us as to what lies ahead - amazing experiences!

100 Days into 2008

That's interesting that on the very day that we make 100 days into 2008 I make it my last day at my current job. Moving on is hard but necessary. I'm excited for what lies ahead and for what has revealed itself. Looking ahead to new experiences as I continue volunteering with community organizations. Somehow I've been changed by meeting all of these wonderful people who work for amazing organizations. I've been blessed to have had the opportunity to work in the this environment for over a year.

President Bill Clinton on the Campaign Trail for Hillary in Dallas 2008

A New Day!

For the first time I participated in Caucus voting. I'm moved at the amount of individuals utilizing their right to vote especially voting in the "Texas Two Step". The upcoming presidential election has made its mark on history. For the first time 'ever' we have a WOMEN and an AFRICAN AMERICAN MAN running for office. Either way it goes we are making history. I'm a part of history - the CHANGE that is taking place. Event within families you have the Clinton supporters against the Obama supporters. But in all its an amazing time in American History that will never be forgotten. The Democratic candidates are as following:

HILLARY CLINTON - Senator from New York

BARACK OBAMA - Senator from Chicago

November will be even more exciting than the March voting in Texas!

January Tuesday

The past several months I've noticed that I wake up and never stop to listen. I haven't stopped to listen for God's voice, the birds chirping outside my window or to my inner voice. I rushed through 2007 without listening - I won't rush through 2008 the same way. I need to take the time to listen! Experience the moments that we all know you can't relive. I will allow myself quiet time to listen and just be. I remember growing up spending my summers in the country with my Mudear and how often she would just sit and look out over the pasture from the front porch and just sit quietly not making a sound. Back then I didn't understand but now I get it!

Take time to listen - you never know what great ideas may come your way!

First Entry - Hmmmm

I can't believe this - I have a blogspot! What a way to start off the new year by publicly posting what I think is important or not important to me. I'm excited to know that I can now do my own thing without having to create a website...on to what this blogspot is all about....What I think.
  • "Moving Moment of the Day" I came across an article in the Sunday Edition (Early Bird version) of the Dallas Morning News *January 13, 2008 titled "Making the best of a worst situation" it's about a young women whose life was changed after developing an infection that caused her to become an amputee. I didn't know whether I should cry or shout out hallelujah because her story touched me and made me thank God for all things small or large. She is a women to salute because of her willingness to keep on going no matter what! The article posted her blogspot so check it out: www.getwelljen.blogspot.com
  • I love the fact PaperCity remains a free publication -may they never charge for keeping me up on what's happening in Dallas!
  • I'm consumed with cooking shows - especially when I can prepare the dishes that are easy. Watching these shows have turned me into a bonafied "Foodie".
  • When are they going to lower the prices for organic foods? I was in Central Market this morning and was in a daze at the price for a box of organic cereal....I want to shop completely organic but at the cost of what???? Not having a cell phone, cable or gas??? Hmm...I'm juggling this idea but it may be better for me to stick to what I know....Albertson's, Kroger & Walmart but offer myself a treat every now and again by taking a visit to Central Market or Whole Foods for special occasions.
  • A special thank you to Yoko for inspiring me to launch my own blogspot - thanks Y!
OK....I'm satisfied with this being my first entry. Tomorrow brings new adventures. I will try and wrap-up each entry with a positive note - there is a reason for all things that happen in our lives so embrace each experience with hope love and gratitude because in each of them there is a lesson to be learned.
